Best of NIEM 2020 Awards Announced

The Best of NIEM 2020 awards recognize those NIEM implementation projects demonstrating significant accomplishment and making noteworthy contributions to NIEM’s use, growth, and adoption. The Best of NIEM 2020 were presented at the NIEM Executive Steering Council’s quarterly meeting held virtually on Wednesday, 23 September.

Established in 2009, the awards recognize outstanding NIEM solutions across our international, federal, state, local, and tribal governments, and the private sector communities.

The Best of NIEM 2020 awards were presented to these six organizations:

CISA Announces Funding Opportunity For State, Local, Tribal And Territorial National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) Cyber Pilot

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Stakeholder Engagement Division has issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity to award a new cooperative agreement for a pilot titled State, Local, Tribal and Territorial National Information Exchange Model Cyber Pilot for fiscal year 2020. The deadline for application is Monday, 27 July 2020

NIEM OPENS BEST OF NIEM 2O2O AWARD NOMINATIONS

Each year, the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) celebrates those organizations which have made significant accomplishments in the use of NIEM with the Best of NIEM awards. The Best of NIEM 2020 will recognize organizations, groups, programs, and individuals who have made noteworthy contributions to the growth and adoption of NIEM.  Instructions are included in the Best of NIEM award nomination form.

NIEM Celebrates the Best of NIEM 2019

The winners of the 2019 Best of NIEM awards were announced at October’s annual NIEM Face-to-Face meetings in Arlington, Virginia. Established in 2009, the awards recognize outstanding NIEM solutions within federal, state, local, and tribal governments, the international community, and the private sector. 

Announcing NIEM JSON Specification 4.0 Beta1 Available for Public Review and Comment

The NIEM JSON Specification Version 4.0beta1 is now available for public review and comment. The NIEM JSON Specification establishes the technical basis for using JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) as a data format for exchange of information consistent with NIEM-conformant schemas and Information Exchange Package Documentations (IEPDs).

Cyber Domain Joins the NIEM.gov Website

The National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) is pleased to announce the inclusion of the Cyber Domain community on the NIEM.gov website. The Cyber Domain is bringing together stakeholders with the objective to consistently share information to defend against cybersecurity threats and to inform a resilient posture to cyber risks at the enterprise-level.

NIEM Announces Incoming Managing Director

The National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) Executive Steering Council’s quarterly meeting took place via teleconference on Wednesday, March 25. The transition of Katherine Escobar to the position of Managing Director of the NIEM Management Office (NMO) was announced. Ryan Schultz, outgoing Managing Director, was recognized for his many contributions to the growth of NIEM.

National Information Exchange Model Statistics Domain Kicks-off

The National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) Statistics Symposium occurred on Wednesday, February 19. This inaugural meeting was hosted by the U.S. Census Bureau, which has taken a leadership role in the development of the NIEM Statistical Domain.  

Download NIEM Version 4.2

NIEM version 4.2 and its associated products are now available for download and use. Products include NIEM XML schemas (XSD), a spreadsheet (MS Excel) of all data components in the model, and alternate database formats (MS Excel, MS MDB, and CSV). This release is the latest version of the NIEM common vocabulary that enables efficient information exchange across diverse public and private organizations.

The winners of the 2019 Best of NIEM awards were announced at October’s annual NIEM Face-to-Face meetings in Arlington, Virginia. Established in 2009, the awards recognize outstanding NIEM solutions within federal, state, local, and tribal governments, the international community, and the private sector. 

Best of NIEM nominees are annually solicited within the NIEM community. Nominees are asked to demonstrate how the NIEM conformant information exchange created improves performance, increases efficiency, and advances interoperability.

NIEM 2019 Face-to-Face Annual Meetings Yield Business and Technical Progress

The National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) hosted the 2019 annual NIEM meetings October 21-25. The week-long series of meetings reviewed the past year’s work and activities and laid the groundwork for the way forward. The week is structured to dedicate two-days each to the NIEM Business Architecture Committee (NBAC) and the NIEM Technical Architecture Committee (NTAC). The Executive Steering Council (ESC), NBAC and NTAC met collectively mid-week to review business and technical topics and initiatives of interest to all.

NIEM 2019 Face to Face Meeting

The NIEM Annual Face to Face (F2F) Meeting kicks off Monday, October 21.  This annual event is hosted by the NIEM Management Office (NMO). The Executive Steering Committee (ESC), NIEM Business Architecture Committee (NBAC), NIEM Technical Architecture Committee (NTAC), Tiger Teams and Lead Developers both collaborate on shared objectives and provide updates to the NIEM governance bodies.  The meeting provides an opportunity for our communities to discuss how they use NIEM as well as ways they would like to use NIEM in the future.

NIEM 4.2 Release Candidate 1 Available for Public Comment and Review

The NIEM 4.2 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) package is available at NIEM-Releases for public review and comment.   The package includes XML schemas, documentation spreadsheets, a change log, a JSON-LD context file, and a README.

The RC1 is a draft of the NIEM 4.2 minor release.  It includes considerable contributions from Biometrics, Emergency Management, and the Justice domains. 

NIEM 4.2 Beta 1 Now Available for Review

The NIEM 4.2 Beta 1 draft  is now available at NIEM-Releases for public review and comment. This work is in support of a 4.2 minor release scheduled for Fall 2019.  Minor releases include changes to domain content and domain code tables as needed.

The NIEM 4.2 Beta 1 release  includes major contributions from Biometrics, Emergency Management, and the Justice domains and includes a Core Supplement 4.0.2. 

Best of NIEM 2019 Nomination Window Now Open

It’s our favorite time of year here, when we recognize outstanding NIEM community achievements.

The Best of NIEM awards recognize innovative solutions using NIEM from federal, state, local and tribal governments, the international community, and private sector organizations. Accomplishments are based on impact demonstrated or developed since September 2018.

Nominations will be accepted through Monday, September 9, 2019

Announcing new NIEM Business Architecture Committee Leadership Changes

The National Information Exchange Model's (NIEM) Executive Steering Committee approved the nomination for Mr. Thomas “Tom” Krul, Public Safety Canada, as the incoming Co-Chair of the NIEM Business Architecture Committee (NBAC), effective October 2019. Mr. Krul will replace Mr. Ryan Schultz and will serve alongside Mr. Kamran Atri, as NBAC Co-Chairs.
