Best of NIEM 2020 Awards Announced
The Best of NIEM 2020 awards recognize those NIEM implementation projects demonstrating significant accomplishment and making noteworthy contributions to NIEM’s use, growth, and adoption. The Best of NIEM 2020 were presented at the NIEM Executive Steering Council’s quarterly meeting held virtually on Wednesday, 23 September.
Established in 2009, the awards recognize outstanding NIEM solutions across our international, federal, state, local, and tribal governments, and the private sector communities.
The Best of NIEM 2020 awards were presented to these six organizations:
Awarded to: Innovation, Information and Technology Branch Interoperability Solution Division Employment and Social Development Canada Government of Canada Developed and shared NIEM IEPDs with multiple program areas – improving citizens’ rapid access to the Pension Plan and Old Age Security benefits |

Awarded to: Situational Awareness Branch Division of Emergency Operations Center for Preparedness and Response U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Developed NIEM-based public health emergency preparedness and response Information Exchange Requirements, Minimum Data Set, and standardized vocabulary |

Awarded to: Innovation and Technology Team City of Charlotte, North Carolina Developed NIEM-based, single source data mapping initiative distributing data to multiple external regional, state, and federal law enforcement systems |

Awarded to: Enterprise Analytics and Information U.S. Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency U.S. Department of Defense Published NIEM-conformant IEPD supporting exchange of the DD-254 Contract Security Classification Specification in both XML and JSON |

Awarded to: Criminal Justice Information Services Division Department of Law Enforcement State of Florida Adopted and implemented NIEM to collect and share criminal justice data across Florida |

Awarded to: Identity, Records, and National Security Division Office of Information Technology U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services U.S. Department of Homeland Security Adopted and implemented NIEM standards on critical systems essential to the interoperability of multiple data sources |
About NIEM
NIEM develops, distributes, and supports large-scale, enterprise-wide information exchange specifications in a joint partnership across all levels of government, the private sector, and internationally.
NIEM’s primary purpose is to enable the exchange of information and data at the message level across communities of interest. To maximize efficiencies, NIEM data components are openly available for use and reuse in the design, development and implementation of standard XML-based information exchange specifications.
