The NIEM 5.1 release candidate 1 (RC1) is available for public review and comment through Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Please visit the NIEM Releases page for instructions on how to download the RC1 package.  Please provide feedback by submitting a new 5.1 issue or by sending an email to niem-comments@lists.gatech.edu.

The NIEM Business Architecture Committee welcomes two new domains to the NIEM community. On 21 September 2021, the NIEM Executive Steering Committee (ESC) unanimously approved the addition of the International Human Services and the Learning and Development domains.

The Best of NIEM 2021 awards recognize those NIEM implementation projects demonstrating significant accomplishment and making noteworthy contributions to NIEM’s use, growth, and adoption. The Best of NIEM 2021 were presented at the NIEM Executive Steering Council’s quarterly meeting held virtually on Tuesday, 21 September.

Established in 2009, the awards recognize outstanding NIEM solutions across our international, federal, state, local, and tribal governments, and the private sector communities.

We are pleased to announce that the NIEM 5.1 Beta 1 minor release is available for review. Minor releases allow for domain-related content changes only. The core and architecture remain fixed until the next major release.  We value your input.  Please post comments and feedback to the issue tracker by Friday, August 20, 2021.

The National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) has extended the nomination period for the Best of NIEM 2021 awards to Friday, August 6. Each year, the Best of NIEM Award recognizes NIEM projects demonstrating noteworthy contributions to the use, growth, and adoption of NIEM. We are asking for the NIEM community's help in identifying and recognizing teams that have implemented NIEM in especially interesting, innovative or impactful ways.

The National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) is pleased to announce the final release of the NIEM JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) Specification v.5.0. This release marks NIEM’s adoption of JSON as the second standard format for representing data based on the NIEM data model. 

The NIEM JSON Specification, Version 5.0 release candidate 2 (RC2) is available for public review and comment through Thursday, May 13. Please visit the NIEM Specifications page to view the RC2 specification and to provide feedback.

This is the final stage before we officially publish the final NIEM JSON Specification version 5.0. At this point in the release cycle, we are working to get to a stable draft and are looking to address errors and bugs only.

The National Information Exchange Model’s (NIEM) Management Office announces the final release of two specifications:

• NIEM Conformance Specification, v5.0 

The Conformance Specification details NIEM general conformance guidance, principles, and rules. 

The National Information Exchange Model’s (NIEM) website, NIEM.gov, has launched with an entirely new look and feel. The site incorporates leading edge practices in web design and content management using open source user interface components. NIEM.gov adheres to the U.S. federal government’s websites visual style guidance and community best practices (i.e., Worldwide Web Accessibility Standards, U.S. Web Design System (USWDS), ADA-Section 508 compliance, etc.).

The National Information Exchange Model’s (NIEM) Management Office announces NIEM 5.0 specification release candidates are available for public comment through Wednesday, 17 March.

• NIEM Conformance Specification, Version 5.0 release candidate 1

 The specification details general conformance guidance, principles, and rules for the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM).

The National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) is pleased to announce newly appointed co-chairs to the NIEM’s State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial (SLTT) Tiger Team. Incoming co-chairs are Paul Wormeli and Michael Phillips. The co-chairs are focusing on how NIEM can best support the highest priorities of each SLTT segments. 

Two significant NIEM-related agreements have been awarded by the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) to the Cybercrime Support Network (CSN). One award is the State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial (SLTT) National Information Exchange Model Cyber Pilot. CISA is using NIEM and NIEM’s Cyber Domain to ensure efficient and accurate NIEM data exchanges regarding cyber incidents among public and private agencies.

The National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) is marking its fifteenth-year anniversary with the release of NIEM 5.0.  This major release underscores NIEM’s value and relevance as a force multiplier in enabling secure, scalable enterprise-level data interoperability across diverse, complex systems and organizations. As importantly, 5.0 establishes the framework for the NIEM metamodel currently in development.

The NIEM Naming and Design Rules (NDR) 5.0 Beta 1 release is available for public review and comment through Monday, 02 November 2020.  The NDR specifies the data model, XML Schema components, and XML data for use with the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM).
