Charge Document NIEM 2.0
A Charge Document is also known as a Charge Filing a Fingerprint Card or a Referral. Although there are significant state local and tribal variations the typical process is for a prosecutor or law enforcement agency to submit to the appropriate court the formal criminal charges against a specific subject (a/k/a defendant). Other justice stakeholders may also receive notification of the charges depending upon the nature of the filing agency the nature of the allegations whether the subject must be booked and other factors. The scope includes the original charges and any subsequent amendments.
