NIEM EM Domain Briefs OASIS Emergency Management Subcommittee
On Sept. 29, 2015, the NIEM Emergency Management Domain held an introductory briefing for the OASIS Reference Information Subcommittee, which operates under the OASIS Emergency Management Technical Committee. Participants included the Emergency Management Domain Facilitator team and OASIS Subcommittee members.
NIEM Emergency Management Domain Program Manager Kamran Atri led the briefing and covered both business and technical elements of the domain. The briefing included an overview of the domain organizational structure, standardization of data exchange packages, the data model development process and alignment to standards organizations such as OASIS Emergency Data Exchange Language (EDXL). Opportunities specific to the Emergency Management Domain and overall benefits for state and local emergency management entities participation were also discussed.
The OASIS International Open Standards Consortium is a non-profit consortium that develops and maintains standards, including the Emergency Data Exchange Language standard, which is used by emergency management organizations and entities from both the public and private sector.
The Emergency Management Domain supports emergency-related services (including preparing first responders and responding to disasters), information sharing, and homeland security resource and communications management. For more information on the domain, please visit the EM Domain community page.
