Update on NIEM-UML for 3.0

On the heels of a successful release of NIEM 3.0, we are currently supporting an effort to update the Unified Modeling Language (UML) Profile for NIEM 3.0. Back in September 2013, NIEM-UML for 2.1 was accepted as an Object Management Group (OMG) specification and has been incorporated into tooling used by the community.

Based on the needs of the NIEM community, we have initiated the OMG process for the updated UML Profile, and on March 27th the OMG Architecture Board (AB) accepted the Request for Proposal (RFP) for NIEM-UML for 3.0! The purpose of the RFP outlines the requirements and defines a timeline of the key milestones of the effort. Acceptance of the RFP is a critical step in finalizing the specification. NIEM Managing Director, Justin Stekervetz, presented the proposal for updating the NIEM-UML profile from 2.1 to 3.0, including explanations of the architectural changes to NIEM for the 3.0 release.

What’s next? We get to work!

Development of the UML Profile for NIEM 3.0 is underway, with a projected Beta specification anticipated for this February. If you would like to support the effort in any way (development, testing, editing!), please contact us here.
