Community Gathers for a NIEM Town Hall

Once again, NIEM community members came together for a NIEM Town Hall. In total, 279 community members—from federal, state, local, international, and the private sector—tuned in to hear about an array of exciting topics, ranging from program and domain updates to state success stories.

NIEM Executive Director, Donna Roy, hosted the Town Hall and led a lively discussion between the panelists and the NIEM community. Andrew Owen, NIEM Technical Architecture Committee (NTAC) Co-Chair, who helps lead the development of the 3.0 technical architecture, discussed the NIEM 3.0 progress and the community’s success in wrapping up the Pre-Alpha phase of the release cycle.

Joe Bodmer and David Tabler, NIEM Human Services Domain Stewards, touched on the ways community engagement has helped accelerate NIEM adoption within their domain as well as next steps for establishing domain governance.

Doug Robinson, NASCIO Executive Director, discussed the importance of NASCIO’s partnership with NIEM and helped shed light on the various NIEM adoption efforts currently underway across states.

The final panelist was the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Data Governance Service Lead, Joseph Grubbs. Grubbs discussed Virginia’s progress in its effort to adopt NIEM, including use of the NIEM Engagement Process and Cost Model.

The Town Hall came to a close with a Question & Answer session that allowed the general community to submit questions to the panelists in real time.

Town Halls are essential for the success of the NIEM program because they provide a platform for community members to inform and engage each other and to share their experiences.
